Impact with Global Design and Industry Partnerships
RMIT Industrial Design has partnered with HOW group to offer an annual travel scholarship, commencing in 2024, awarding a 3rd-year high-achieving Industrial Design student commencing their Honours year in the consecutive year.
The Paul and Ian Howard Memorial Travel Scholarship is a generous bursary gifted by the HOW Group of AUD $15,000
to cover all expenses to travel across Europe and China,
exploring events offered in International Design Weeks (Milan and Shanghai),
to upskill in design trends, tour manufacturing workshops,
and expand on global networks.
Details
Students in their third year of the Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) program are invited to develop a portfolio of work demonstrating their academic achievements highlighting excellence in design and technology. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their work to Paul Howard from HOW group. The winner will be announced at this year’s 2024 ID GRADEX opening night. The recipient will receive prize money of $15,000 to cover overseas travel and accommodation expenses the following year. The itinerary will include a visit to Italy visiting the Salone de Mobile in Milan and attend the Milan Design Week. Then to Design Manufacturing plants in one or both Valencia, Spain and/or Shanghai, China (tbc). The winner will be promoted through RMIT’s internal and external communication platforms and HOW’s social media channels.

EOIs Accepted: Friday 18 October – Friday 25 October.

Eligibility criteria
Open to a student currently in the third year RMIT Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) program. The recipient must be able to travel in April-June 2025. Selection criteria GPA (minimum GPA of 3. Distinction average or above - across Design Studios and Core Courses). Portfolio of design work and a response to EOI (outlining motivation and value of travel and appreciation of Paul and Ian Howard’s legacy)
